Sares Regis was retained as Development Manager to assist in turning an awkward 1970s vintage building, built for a different purpose, into a vibrant campus that expands and enhances CuriOdyssey’s mission of promoting early science learning. Currently in the second construction phase, the campus will eventually consist of eight single- and two-story, free-standing buildings ranging in size from approximately 2,000 to 8,000 square feet (totaling approximately 32,000 square feet of building structures) and 50,000 square feet of developed site area along with surface parking and exterior site improvements.

Prior to Sares Regis engagement, attempts to redesign the building ended when cost estimates far exceeded available funding. Our solution was to shift to a campus approach which allows CuriOdyssey to phase construction and build each piece as funding becomes available, adjust each building’s specific design to best accommodate the evolution of needs and requirements, and also allows the museum to stay open during construction and maintain critical visitor revenue. The new design capitalizes on the stunning bayside setting by bringing natural light indoors and providing areas for outdoor classrooms and exterior exhibits. As the now-complete first phase, CuriOdyssey partnered with Magical Bridge Foundation to design the “Whooosh!’’ playground that allows children (and adults) of any size, age, and ability to explore scientific concepts in new and exciting ways. Sares Regis managed that piece of the project on a pro bono basis.
